Our Mission
Tifereth Israel Synagogue is a vibrant, multigenerational Conservative Jewish congregation in San Diego, dedicated to creating meaningful Jewish experiences. We are a spiritual home where people come together to learn, pray, celebrate, and care for one another. Our community values both tradition and growth, welcoming connection, compassion, and curiosity as pathways to a purposeful Jewish life.
Our Vision
We envision a community where every person feels a sense of belonging, purpose, and connection to one another, to Jewish wisdom, and to the sacred. Tifereth Israel Synagogue is a vibrant, inclusive Jewish home rooted in tradition and joy, where people of all backgrounds come together to celebrate, learn, pray, and grow.
Core Values
Inclusion & Compassion (Rachamim). We are a welcoming and supportive community, offering care during life’s moments of joy and sorrow. We embrace interfaith and multifaith households, LGBTQIA+ individuals, Jews-by-choice, and people of all ages, races, backgrounds, abilities, and financial means.
Spirituality & Prayer (Tefillah). We provide meaningful, egalitarian services that are accessible to diverse levels of observance. Our prayer spaces are grounded in tradition and open to personal expression, creating room for connection, reflection, and joy.
Shabbat & Sacred Time (Menuchah v’Kedushah). We celebrate Shabbat with song, prayer, shared meals, community learning, and spiritual rest. Shabbat is at the heart of our communal rhythm, a time to slow down, reconnect, and be present together.
Sacred Partnership (Kehillah K’doshah). Our community thrives through strong relationships and shared leadership. Clergy, staff, and lay leaders work together in partnership, grounded in mutual care and respect.
Youth & Generational Connection (L’dor V’dor). From preschool to high school, our young people are seen, supported, and empowered. Through learning, social connection, prayer, and social action, we nurture the next generation of Jewish leaders with wisdom, confidence, and compassion.
Learning for Life (Beit Midrash). Jewish learning is a lifelong journey. Our programs range from foundational Jewish knowledge to deep text study, all rooted in curiosity, relevance, and community. We study together to deepen our practice, grow as people, and bring more peace and meaning into the world.
Music (Shira). Music uplifts our prayer and energizes our gatherings. Through singing and song, we connect to each other and to something greater than ourselves.
Repairing the World (Tikkun Olam). We are committed to justice, compassion, and caring for those in need. Guided by Jewish values, we partner with local and global communities to pursue equity, dignity, and healing in the world.
Connection to Israel (Am Yisrael Chai). We affirm our deep and enduring relationship with Israel, the historic and spiritual homeland of the Jewish people, through education, engagement, and congregational travel.
