This is a wonderful gathering for all ages as we gather at the edge of Lake Murray to symbolically “cast our sing” into the water.
For children, this can create connectivity to Rosh Hashana through interactive, hands-on learning. There is no doubt that this will become a fun and memorable family tradition.
What to bring:
Be sure to bring duck pellets, bird seed, corn, or other environmentally friendly items to toss. Bread can be dangerous for ducks and fish.
What is Tashlich?
Tashlich is a ritual observed during the High Holidays, specifically Rosh Hashana, where participants symbolically cast off past sins and mistakes by throwing pieces of bread or other small items into a body of flowing water. The Hebrew word "tashlich" means "to cast off," and the ritual is rooted in the biblical verse from Micah 7:19: "You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea". The ceremony symbolizes the desire to start the new year with a clean slate and renew one's soul by letting go of the negative and seeking a fresh start.
Our Location
From Lake Murray Boulevard turn north on Kiowa Drive and continue to the gate. Follow the road around to the parking lot and look for us on the lawn next to the water.
