Hineni: A Yom Kippur Meditation Experience

Yk Meditation 26 Banner V2

Guided by Dr. Shayna Kaufmann

Monday, September 21st, 4:40 p.m. in the Goodman Chapel

Yom Kippur invites us to pause, turn inward, and be fully present. Hineni—“Here I am”—is a simple yet powerful invitation to show up for ourselves, for one another, and for this sacred day.

In this hour together, I’ll guide us through accessible mindfulness practices and reflection centered around three themes: presence (Hineni), compassion (rachamim), and connection. We’ll create space to notice what is here, meet ourselves with greater tenderness, and reconnect with what matters most—to ourselves, to one another, and perhaps to something larger than ourselves.

Along the way, we’ll also explore the spirit of teshuvah—the possibility of returning and beginning again.

Whether you’ve never meditated before or have practiced for years, you’re invited to simply come as you are. There is nothing you need to accomplish and no particular way you need to feel.

This contemplative alternative to the Mincha service offers an opportunity to experience Yom Kippur not only through words and prayer, but through stillness, presence, and compassionate awareness.
